After numerous tests on new materials, the Mares Lab has produced the Avanti Excel fin to further enhance the performance of the legendary Plana tradition. Elastic OPB, Superchannel Thrust and Tri-material technologies combine with the Whale Tail design in one extraordinary fin, ideal for demanding divers.

The world’s first fin made from two different materials, with a strap featuring adjustable, rotating buckles and a water-channeling system, and the first with an OPB system that maximizes thrust.
Since 1978, Mares has revolutionized the rules of finning.

During finning, traditional fins have limited bending angles due to their construction. As a result, only a small part of the blade pushes water in the direction of travel, while the rest pushes water in the opposite direction, reducing the diver’s forward thrust.

The O.P.B. system, patented by Mares, allows the blade to take up an ideal angle during both phases of the finning cycle, enabling much of the fin to push a greater volume of water and significantly increasing efficiency. All the diver’s effort is converted into thrust in the direction of travel.

Another limitation of traditional fins is the inconsistency of thrust during the finning cycle, with considerable differences between maximum and minimum thrust.

The O.P.B. system instead optimizes thrust throughout all phases of the finning cycle, resulting in less fatigue and a much smoother movement in the water.

The Avanti Excel delivers the highest level of performance in any diving conditions.

Super Channel Thrust increases the volume of channeled water to optimize thrust compared with previous fins of similar size. The elastic OPB system allows the blade to adapt to the phases of the finning cycle, significantly increasing efficiency.

The “whale tail” section at the foot pocket provides improved power transmission,

with improved sensitivity during finning.

Three different materials were used in its construction to improve efficiency over previous Mares fin models. The result is “pure power” in any conditions.
