After extensive testing of new materials, Mares Lab developed the Avanti Excel fin to further improve the performance of the legendary Plana range. Elastic OPB, Superchannel Thrust and Tri-material technologies combine with the Whale Tail design in one outstanding fin, ideal for demanding divers.

The world's first fin made from two different materials, with an adjustable, rotating buckle strap and a water-channeling system, and the first with an OPB system that maximizes thrust.
Since 1978, Mares has been revolutionizing the rules of finning.

During finning, traditional fins have limited flex angles due to their construction. As a result, only a small part of the blade pushes water in the direction of travel, while the rest pushes water in the opposite direction, reducing the diver's forward thrust.

Mares' patented O.P.B. system allows the blade to assume an ideal angle during both phases of the kick and enables much of the fin to push a greater volume of water, significantly increasing efficiency. All the diver's effort is converted into thrust in the direction of travel.

Another limitation of traditional fins is the uneven thrust throughout the kick cycle, with considerable differences between maximum and minimum thrust.

The O.P.B. system instead optimizes thrust during every phase of the kick, resulting in less fatigue and a much smoother movement through the water.

The Avanti Excel delivers the highest level of performance in any diving conditions.

Superchannel Thrust increases the volume of channeled water to optimize thrust compared with previous fins of similar size. The elastic OPB system allows the blade to assume the correct position during the phases of the kick, significantly increasing efficiency.

The “Whale Tail” section in the foot pocket allows better power transmission,

with improved sensitivity while finning.

Three different materials were used in its construction to improve performance compared with previous Mares fin models. The result is “pure power” in all conditions.
