Using Skeinfish Teasers

You may have heard of a "miraculous" teaser that allows you to catch garfish without using any hooks...
This teaser, called MECIUDA, is trolled at low speed, from a boat or from shore;
mistaking it for a small fish, garfish attack it and become tangled by their "beak".
This fishing technique is used above all to catch live bait without causing it any injury; in this way, the garfish remains lively and active for much longer.

The standard setup for trolling for garfish uses two rods, preferably light ones, one to the right and one to the left, spread as far outwards as possible; the main line must never be thinner than the leader: 0,18-0,25 nylon, depending on how clear or murky the water is. The most productive speed is around 3 knots. The lines should be let out 35-50 metres astern. Garfish are predators too, but they have a bill; like all fish with a bill, they use this appendage to strike live prey as it swims by, then swallow it once it has been stunned.
Trollers have made use of this behaviour. In practice, when you feel a strike on the line, let out 2 or 3 metres of line by quickly moving the rod well backwards, so that the bait stops and the garfish, convinced it has hit its target, decides to swallow it.

This lure is simply a series of synthetic filaments that hold the garfish without the need for a hook, taking advantage of the rough, abrasive surface of this fish's bill. The teaser was a very important innovation for garfish fishing, as it is highly effective and, above all, does not injure the fish because it has no hook. Mount two or three teasers on each leader, spaced 40-50 centimetres apart, and you're ready to go.
